Crossroads consists of two players. Player one is responsible for pushing the white pawns (starting on the first row of the chessboard) while player two is responsible for blocking white pawns from promoting (choosing which squares black pawns are placed on). White pawns move identically to Chess (2 squares forward on the first move, 1 square forward after that, capturing diagonally) black pawns are stationary after being placed by player two (treated as an obstacle that CAN be captured for white to pass).
ORDER:
Player two starts by placing their eight black pawns anywhere unoccupied
on the board as an obstacle for the white pawns to pass, and then placing
three hidden obstacles on the board (stampede, hurricane, and boulder)
which player one can encounter after reaching the associated square.
Stampedes remove pawns vertically from their activated square, hurricanes
remove pawns diagonally in an “x” motion from their activated square and
boulders remove pawns horizontally from their activated square.
Player one wins by progressing at least one white pawn to the end of the
board; player two wins if white can no longer progress any pawns forward.
